What we're reading: Potter, Signing, Don Bosco, and more!

We are really getting into books and DVDs right now. The picture doesn't even show half of it!

The Baby Signing Time DVDs are my girls' favorite! Not only does it teach American Sign Language to your little ones, but it encourages a larger range of vocabulary. I've had some people ask me, "Won't that just keep your kids from talking?" Honestly, it was a great tool for Sunny. It has prevented so many tantrums in that age where they want something, but all they can say is, "Dada," but then they can Sign for the things they can't vocalize yet.
Not to brag~ ok, maybe just a little~ but these DVDs and my teaching have Dainty (who really can ONLY say "dada" and "duck" as of last night) Singing for milk, bath, cracker, dada, mama, more and up!

My Catholic Family: Don Bosco
We are always trying to mix in little pieces of our Faith with our daily activities.  It is totally awesome that our parish hosts a little traveling library that comes around every 3rd Sunday; that's where we picked up this sweet little movie. Sunny loves it and I'm amazed at how much info she has memorized about Saint Don Bosco! She brought me a playdough "cake" with a lit glow-pen stuck in the top saying it was for Don Bosco's feast day~awesome! I also changed the quote on my inspiration board to an excerpt from Don Bosco's dream: " You must win your friends not with blows, but with gentleness and kindness. So to teach them that sin is ugly and virtue is beautiful."

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
This has to be one of the LONGEST books to read. It is seriously ginormous. I am determined to finish it ASAP (even though I'm a mere 1/8 through since starting it last Friday). This book is excellent though. It always brings me to tears when Cedric dies and it has NOTHING to do with Robert Pattinson dying... or biting people's necks... come on, ladies, get a GRIP! I loathe Twilight, so there.

Mariel of Redwall
Honestly, Peter hasn't opened this one yet because he started reading The Story of a Soul on Kindle and has been captivated by it. He has been so enlightened by St. Therese's autobiography that I just received The Story of a Family in the mail as a family gift from hubby! I've read it before and I am going to add it to my reading list... it will come after A Little Princess (a childhood fav.) and TimeLine

The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We listened to this on Audio CD during our recent trip to and from NJ. As the title suggests, it is a LONG story. We made it through 5 CDs in only say... 8 hours of travel and we have 5 CDs to go! We are amazed that so much can be said about snow and returned home feeling spoiled with modern appliances. It is very cold ... and sobering...and cold... and it's still summer here.

Signing off
