Teaching our children to love Jesus

Sunny: Can I have my markers PLEASE?!
Me: Sure! ~hands over markers.
Sunny: Jesus! Mommy, I want to color JESUS!
Me: Do you want me to find a picture of Jesus
in your coloring book?
Sunny: NO! I want to color the Jesus that
Aunty Merle has at her house!
Me: Well, it IS at Aunty's house... so you will have to color
something else.
Sunny: NOOOOO! I want to color Aunty's Jesus!
*thinking*
Me: How about I make you a NEW Jesus to color?
~I take out white paper and cut out a cross~
Me: Here you go, Sunny, now you can color Jesus!
Sunny: Oh, thank you SO much Mommy! It's so beautiful...
*Sunny takes her markers and Jesus cross
and places them lovingly on the table.

Sunny: I'm going to make you so pretty, Jesus!
*Folds hands and closes eyes*
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Ghost, AMEN.
Dear Jesus, please make Sunny a good girl today,
thank You for this beautiful morning,
thank You for ... coloring with markers,
thank You for ... watching a movie, for snacks, and tea,
thank You for... going on the slide,
thank You for Mommy, Daddy, and Dainty,
thank You for ... going to church,
and for Bryan's cake.
*whispers*
I love you, Jesus!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost. AMEN.
~Sunny starts coloring her cross.

I no longer feel like I have neglected teaching our daughters
their Faith. I don't need a textbook or strict lessons
to teach Sunny to love Jesus,
she has learned the basics from OUR EXAMPLE.
She is praying and talking to Jesus as she has
seen Mommy and Daddy do at every meal,
at bedtime every night,
and even when Mommy or Daddy are
asking Jesus for help throughout the day.
I love how she knows she can add her own words
of thanksgiving to make it personal.
I can feel Jesus smiling on Sunny right now!

~Michelle
