Happy First Week of Advent!

Here in the Tomo household,
we started our Christmas preparations
on December 2nd, the First
Sunday of Advent.

In the Catholic Church, this marks the
start of our new church calendar year!
(So Happy New Years!)

Here are some ways we have been
preparing for Jesus' birthday:

Advent Calendar
A great way for children to countdown the days until
Jesus' birthday! There is a spiritual quote behind
each door along with a piece of chocolate (yum!).
We let Sunshine open her door before
dinner~ a great incentive for her to be
on her best behavior at least until dinner time.

Jesus' Birthday Box
Sunshine helped me wrap an old tissue box
in pretty wrapping paper and cut a hole
in the top to make a special present for Jesus.
When we do a kind deed we write down
our sacrifice on a little strip of paper
and place it in the box.
On Epiphany, January 6th,
we will take our box to church and present it
to Jesus (just as the Wise Men did!).

LittlePeople Nativity Set
Sunshine loves to play with "Jesus' House."
As you can see, Mary and the cow are
cleaning up the stable for Jesus' arrival.

Advent Wreath
We keep our Advent wreath on the kitchen table and light
one purple candle each night this week while we
sing "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel."

I didn't feel like fighting with a toddler over lit
taper candles, so we chose to use these simple
jar candles with fresh cut holly from our bushes.

What is your family doing to prepare for Christmas?
