Button Up Towel-Tuggers

Hey All!

Yikes! The days and weeks are rolling by so fast! Now that school has started up again there is little time to stop and chat. My thoughts are, "So much to share and so little time to blog it all!"

However, I do have a spare moment while Sunny is napping to share with you a little craft I made to make my life a little easier. I call it the "Button Up Towel Tugger." You see, Sunny has a naughty habit of constantly throwing all my clean kitchen towels on the floor and using them as shufflers. I knew that I had to do something to prevent more unnecessary laundry loads! I remembered that my mum had these kitchen towels with crocheted tops that she could button around the stove handle, towel rack, or drawer. THIS was something that I needed! I knew I didn't have enough time to crochet a whole bunch of towels or even sew a crocheted piece to attach to every towel, so I came up with the idea (which I think is pretty clever) to crochet only TWO strips with buttonholes that can be buttoned to each towel... I would sew only ONE button on each towel to fasten it.
And that,
my dear readers,
is
EXACTLY
what
I did!

Sunny got a little curious with Mama's yarn...

Half-way through the second strip

The first Towel-Tugger!

This was such an easy and quick project! (minus untangling an entire skein of yarn) The first one that I made seemed a little longer than I wanted, so I made the second shorter, but they do their job quite nicely. I get a good chuckle when Sunny goes to pull off the towels and looks very confused when they won't budge! I sewed the buttons securely to the middle of each towel (as shown) to keep an equal weight balance on the button to prevent tearing (I knew my little sumo baby was going to put up a fight for them!).

Very clever...I am too lazy to actually attach them to my towels. I wonder how long it'll take Allie to figure out how to yank it free? Worth a try!

Very neat idea. I don't do any crafty things like that at all, but I love to see when others can.

I am very particular about my kitchen. I have a baby gate at the kitchen entrance, and I demand that all children (people, really) STAY OUT when I'm cooking! It sounds horrible really, but I have a little kitchen (it is open to the dining area - so the kids can be at the table and I can still talk to them and see them), and I'm so afraid that someone will get stepped on, burned, etc.

Ok, you probably didn't want to know all that, but I'm going to post it anyway.

Have a great day!!!!

My kitchen is itty bitty also, so I share your pain! Unfortunately, my kitchen opens into the dining area, so I can't fit a baby-gate across. Hubby came home yesterday and found the little one latched onto my leg while I was making dinner... he asked if she always is like that, and I said yes. He felt bad for me and actually took over dinner for me! Not joking! :D
