Golden Book Day

Hey All!

Do you ever have a moment where you feel like you must be in a fairy story or child's book? Today is one of those days for me!  Besides the New England fall leaves changing color and displaying a startling color contrasts against a perfect mantle-blue sky, there is a fresh breeze weaving through my windows carrying in the crisp scent of apples, and the sun's bright arms are stretching their light across the lawn. However, the most important part of today's story begins with the charming display of animals on the lawn, all of which seem to be fraternizing while about their errands.

First, and most importantly, we have Mr. Groundhog, who is digging around the grass for a snack and inching his way towards the garden beds... hoping to appear as though he isn't up to anything in particular. He is a chubby and well-groomed fellow with a mischievous twinkle in his little eyes. Next we have Madame M. Dove, who is bobbing back and forth across the walkway (it seems she forgot where she left her spectacles again). Then there is Cheery Squirrel, who is always has someplace to go and not much time to chat. He usually just squeaks out a quick, "Hello there-cheery morning-catch you later!" Ah, and here we have Tippy Chipmunk, who is always upset about something and bawling her little lungs off with hearty sobs... this time it is because Skippy Chipmunk stole her precious lunch (he loves to tease her and chase her up and down and around the trees). Over there underneath the shelter of some blackberry bushes is shy Bippity Bunny. She is peering out at bold Mr. Groundhog who is inching even closer to the garden and timidly wishing she could taste some herbs too! Closer to the house by the porch, the stately queen bees are bubbling in and out of their holes while humming the violin concerto for their coronation ceremonies come spring... though they are rudely interrupted by a gang of juveniles; three obnoxious crows who are actually quarreling about who can make the loudest, "CAW!"   The ruckus, much to my dismay, causes all the other animals to scurry back to their homes in an instant.

Oh well, perhaps I can finish my tale another day! Silly crows...
