Crock Pot Split Pea and Ham Chowder

 Hey All!

I have found that when I am having a sick day or a day where I am super busy that a crock pot is a tremendous blessing! Here is an easy recipe that is my favorite to use on those such occasions. You can sub the ingredients with whatever is in your fridge!

Split Pea and Ham Chowder

1 medium potato, cubed
3 cups cooked, cubed ham
1 (16oz) bag split peas, rinsed
1 diced red pepper
1 (14oz) can chicken broth
2 carrots, sliced
2 ribs celery, sliced
1 tbsp. dried onion flakes
1 tsp. dried marjoram
1 tsp. seasoned salt
3 cups water
1 tsp. salt

Spray slow cooker with cooking spray and add all ingredients. Cover and cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH 4-6 hours. Serves 4-6.

This looks yummy. Do you puree it after it cooks, or do you keep the veggies whole? I don't use my crockpot as much as I could. I need to do that more!

Hey Christine!

Yes, you may certainly puree it once it cooks! I have another crock pot soup recipe that I puree as well since my hubby doesn't care for the chunky texture. I would recommend tacking an additional hour to the cook time after the soup has been pureed, to help break down leftover chunks and enhance the smooth texture you are looking for.
